Support after disaster or critical event

Strengthening Connections is a community based workshop enabling participants to learn practical skills to support individuals in the aftermath of disasters or critical events.

This training focuses on providing immediate emotional and psychological comfort, meeting basic needs, and linking people to appropriate services—without diagnosing or counselling.

What you’ll gain:

  • A clear framework for community recovery activities
  • Skills in contact and engagement, safety and comfort, stabilisation, and information gathering
  • Techniques for offering practical assistance, connecting with social supports, and promoting coping strategies
  • Understanding cultural sensitivity, at-risk populations, and ethical considerations
Why it matters:

PFA helps people feel safe, supported, and less overwhelmed until they can access further professional help. It’s an essential tool for anyone involved in disaster response, community support, or frontline care.
